Last Week Tonight Bags Two Emmys, Including Variety Series Writing

Scott Safadi

Scott Safadi serves as general manager of Cal Bay Property Management, a growing real estate management company that specializes in multifamily and commercial property markets. During his free time, Scott Safadi enjoys watching television. One of his favorite shows is Last Week Tonight.

Hosted by Emmy- and Writer's Guild Award-winning writer John Oliver, Last Week Tonight is a late-night talk and news satire show that airs Sunday nights on HBO. Debuting in 2014, the show received critical acclaim. Last Week Tonight is currently in its third season.

The show recently received its first Emmy Awards in the 2016 Creative Arts Emmys, bagging two titles: Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Best Picture Editing for Variety Programming. The show's win for variety series writing is considered significant, as the category was finally considered to be wide open after The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, the two late-night shows that dominated the category for a decade, ended their runs.

This isn't the first time that Oliver has received recognition in this category, having previously won three times as a part of The Daily Show's writing team.
